SMD, is a rapper, producer, entrepreneur, 2 bit hustler, with a B.S. in b’s’.
He helped lift up a stagnant Rochester Hip-Hop scene with the historic Smokin’ Buta First Friday hip-hop showcases. Now he is set to release what he calls his “Magnum Opus” on September 11th which happens to be his birthday…never forget.
The album will feature some of the biggest names in underground hip-hop who happen to be from Rochester, which a recent Bandcamp article said is “Going Global”. Eto, who just released an amazing album with DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill fame. 38 Spesh, who has not only been one of the best lyricists in the game for over a decade, but also had the illest verse on this arguably the summer’s best hip-hop album Benny the Butcher’s “Plugs I Met”. Other rappers on the project include Rochester legends PA Knit, Hassaan Mackey, and Coach P. He was even able to catch the international DJ EASE in between trips to Europe and India to lay cuts for one of the tracks.
Leading up to the album’s release he is doing a series called SMD 9-11’s, which are 11 minute beat tapes 9 beats a piece, each with it’s own theme released every Tuesday and Thursday starting Thursday August 1st leading up to the release. You can follow that here, or on his soundcloud.
