This Friday, December 23rd marks the triumphant homecoming of Rochester, NY's very own CODES.
He's been in Brooklyn for the better part of a decade now, honing his craft and making a name for himself as one of the most unique and influential underground house music producers and DJs in the country.
With a brand new EP just released on STMPD Records, and in the midst of a nationwide tour, Codes is in for an action-packed winter.
I was able to catch up with him between shows to ask him a few questions about the tour, and about his upcoming hometown show here in Rochester, NY.
GW: Congratulations on the new EP and tour! I know you’ve been getting out there more and more over the past few years. Any new cities on the current tour that you’re excited to visit for the first time?
Codes: Thanks! The only city I never played in until this run was Montreal and that was the opening show, so I was excited for that. Honestly couldn’t have asked for a better night. The first one sets the vibe, so I’m happy it was a hit. It was freaking freezing there but I really dug the club Newspeak, and the whole Conkrete crew were all amazing people with the kind of energy that makes the perfect party. New favorite city for sure!
GW: We’re very stoked to have you back in Rochester for your headlining show at The Photo City Improv on the eve of Christmas Eve. In your view, how does the house music scene in Brooklyn compare to the one in Western New York?
Codes: Dude I’m so excited to be back of course! I haven’t been to/or played a show like that over there in quite a while. Brooklyn is oversaturated with money, promoters, producers, DJs and WNY seems like there’s not more than a few promoters doing it - which I think is a good thing. It’s cool to see the homies Eyes Everywhere out of Buffalo do their thing. Would love to be put on to anymore peeps making dope tunes out that way. I’m stoked to see you guys and rock out there!
GW: Will you get to spend any time with Rochester friends and family before bouncing off to your next gig?
Codes: Of course! Going to spend the rest of the time with the fam and friends before heading to Minneapolis and Philly for New Years. I am super fortunate to have a super amazing loving family. Moms and Gram will be cooking a feast the next day so I’m going to eat like a piggy and finally sleep a bunch. I can’t wait!
GW: Finally, what’s your #1 Christmas wish?
Codes: That all my fam and friends are healthy and happy! 2018 is going to be an amazing year!

The Leisure Lab's SMD sat down with SITA and Zach, the co-founders of Fanboy Promotions, to discuss the electronic music scene in Rochester, NY, and their role in it.
SMD: What is Fanboy Promotions and who is the driving force behind it?
SITA & Zach: Fanboy Promotions is a company located in Rochester, NY that produces electronic music events, booking national acts and tours. Jeff Parasida and Zach Hamilton are the owners and also manage the operations.
SMD: You guys have been locking down some sick bookings as of late. How does the company decide which artists and venues to work with when putting these shows together?
SITA & Zach: We put a lot of time in determining the acts we book. Probably the biggest factor is whether or not the artists have been around the area before. We take a lot of pride in exploiting unrecognized talent and giving the fans new experiences to have. With that said, we’ve also developed a list of artists to bring time and time again, that the fans want back. It’s all about timing and utilizing resources which we feel like we’ve done pretty well so far.
SMD: It’s been a while since Codes has performed here in his hometown of Rochester. I know that Jeff was in the scene when Codes was first getting his start before he moved out to Brooklyn. How has the house music scene in Western New York changed since then?
SITA & Zach: Since then, a lot of venues have closed or changed ownership. Many other genres of electronic music have also surfaced and are thriving now, such as Dubstep and Trap. House Music is still alive and well but most of our bookings have revolved around Bass Music. We are testing the new-age waters with booking Codes, as he produces a lot of Bassline House, along with other genres of house. We are looking forward to seeing a lot of the older crowd at this one, as there aren’t a lot of opportunities to catch House Music in Rochester anymore. We are also hoping that it will be an enjoyable, new experience for our “Bass Head” fan base.
SMD: After the Codes show on December 23rd, what does Fanboy Promotions have in store for us in 2018?
SITA & Zach: Our first show in 2018 actually falls on the One Year Anniversary Weekend for Photo City Imrpov on January 12th. It’s a triple headliner event featuring NastyNasty, Proko, and Digital Ethos. Then, we have Soohan w/ Toadface as support on January 26th. After that, we have a dual headlining show on February 10th featuring Twonk record label producers Hydraulix, and Eliminate. Following all of those, we have some other shows for the rest of 2018 TBA!
